As a teenager, Olivia was drawn into the slam poetry movement and, as a senior, earned the title of NM State Slam Poetry Champion. In the decade since, she has continued to use her poetic voice to honor her northern New Mexico heritage all while educating and mobilizing New Mexicans around the risks and uncertainties of their natural resources.

Olivia has been a featured poet at the National Hispanic Cultural Center, the National Cowboy Poetry Gathering, and a featured storyteller for the Taos Storytelling Festival. In 2023, she was a featured artist in the Ojos Diferentes’ augmented reality project that poetically re-imagined Robert Oppenheimer’s Santa Fe office.

As a farmer from the Taos Valley, Olivia understands there is no precedent for the climate crisis. She has been a long time acequia advocate and uses her writing and advocacy to testify of her tireless commitment to the continuation of land-based ways of life.
